Dry Shampoo: The 5 Day Challenge Brought to You by Not Your Mothers
The Challenge: Five full days without washing your hair (yes, yes… sounds gross!)
The Product of Choice: The new Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo.
The Hair Type of Challenger: Brunette with a tendency for oily roots the second day after washing.
The Claim: Refreshes hair instantly without water. Absorbs excess oil and leaves hair with a light, matte finish ready for a night out on the town, even when you’re too busy to wash your hair.
What The Challenger Says: I’ve been using dry shampoo for a number of years now so I’ve put quite a few through their paces. Recently, I’ve settled on a mass market brand which offers the convenience of being coloured (to match my hair) so I don’t get greyish, grandma looking roots which traditional white-based dry shampoos often leave. So understandably I was a little sceptical about trying this dry shampoo for five days.
Well, what do you know, the colour of my hair wasn’t affected at all by Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo! I found this dry shampoo formula to be much finer than others from the past. For a few days, I actually got away with just massaging it in after spraying rather than having to brush it out. Timesaver!
Then I was informed, by a much smarter person than I, that many dry shampoos use rice starch as an absorber, which can coat the hair leaving it white. I didn’t have this issue at all with Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo. So, no whiteness, minimal brushing and no build-up: ticks all round so far.
The fragrance is lovely and light, and… drum roll, please… the performance. Amazing! Worked everyday without fail. Never once did I hear a comment about my hair being greasy or floppy looking. Believe me; I initiated many a conversation around this topic. Plus by day three my hair (at the roots) had some real volume about it, which was an added bonus as I only had to re-style the mid-length and ends.
Would I recommend this product to my mum, BFF, boss, or to my year 10 maths teacher Mrs Maguire? Sure would, and to anyone else who is willing to listen to me singing its praises. All-in-all two thumbs up!
